The Best Thing You’re Missing From Your Skincare Routine

Sleep is an essential part of our daily lives, it helps repair our bodies, reduces stress, and increases our productivity during the day, but not only that it is known to improve our skin too! Here are some ways you can improve your sleep to nourish your skin from the inside out.

Reducing Your Screen Time Before Bed

The screens on our devices are known to produce something called blue light which is an artificial colour that mimics daylight, helping us stay alert during the day to check our phones and laptops for those work emails, Instagram notifications, and messages from loved ones. The only issue is that as night time sets in and our bodies start wanting to wind down for bed, the blue light instead suppresses melatonin, a hormone in our bodies that helps to control sleep making it that much harder to fall asleep. So although scrolling on TikTok before bed might be very tempting (personally very guilty of this!) maybe set a challenge this week to experiment different ways to wind down that does not use a screen.

Journalling

Our day is full of stressors and what may sometimes feel like never ending to-do lists running through our minds at night just as we are trying to fall asleep. Jotting down how your day went or things that made you smile that day can help relieve some of the stress and anxiety allowing us to feel more peaceful and get to state ready for good sleep.

Include Some Exercise In Your Daily Routine

Exercising is a vital aspect in taking care of our overall health, and although some may find it helpful fitting in a gym session after work or a run first thing in the morning, not all of us function the same way. Finding an exercise that suits you is the most important factor and you can do everything from walking your dog, watching yoga videos on YouTube, or cycling to work.

Creating A Relaxing Environment

Creating a relaxing ambience before we go to bed will help our bodies feel less tense, allowing the body to naturally shut down and repair itself during our sleep cycle. Using things such as diffusers, heated blankets, scented candles, fairy lights, and calming music before we go to bed can help the body and mind feel more relaxed allowing a nice transition into sleep.
